European Apple Sawfly: Larvae are moving from their original "tunnel" just under the surface of the fruit and migrating to another site on the fruit to burrow into the core. Orange/brown frass on the side of fruit indicate this burrowing.
Codling Moth: We have reached 230 DD (base 50) from first moth capture in pheromone traps at the UVM HRC. At 250 DD it is predicted that 3% of eggs have hatched.
Plum Curculio: We have reached 184 DD (base 50)from Petal Fall (May 11) at the UVM HRC. PC are still active. A Cornell model predicts the end of activity at 340 DD from Petal Fall.
Apple Scab: At the UVM HRC, since we had reached 900 DD last week, the day time, soaking rain we had on May 20, 1998 should have released the remaining ascospores in the leaf litter. Monitoring for scab must continue to determine if any lesions develop from the infection period on May 20, 1998.
