An IPM Checklist for Vermont
As previously indicated, each issue of the Vermont
Apple Newsletter will contain parts of the IPM Checklist that Dr. Elena
Garcia and I developed through a USDA project entitled: "Linking Food Safety to
Farm*A*Sys and IPM to Reduce Microbial and Pesticide Risks in Apples. The
checklist is intended to be a quick reminder; details can be found in other parts of
this newsletter or in other available resources.

of any restrictions on pesticides used during this period and their
'Pre-Harvest Intervals'.
Continue to examine leaves for presence of second generation Leafhopper nymphs
and adults to determine if threshold has been reached.
Examine middle-age terminal leaves to determine if threshold has been reached for
European Red Mites.
Check Apple Maggot Fly traps on a regular basis to determine if threshold
has been reached. Clean traps and replace lure every 3-4 weeks.
Clean and repair harvesting bags
and fruit storage containers.
Check predicted harvest dates and if planning to use 'harvest aid compounds',
determine when to apply.
Monitor soil moisture conditions and irrigate when necessary.
Mow grass as often as possible to
discourage Vole populations and to aid in air circulation for disease management. Keep an
18-inch weed free area next to trees.
