Biological Control ... Thanks to all the predators !

As the growing season comes to an end, I would be remiss not to acknowledge that biological control was active in many, if not all, Vermont orchards this year.   At numerous times, ladybird beetles, syrphid fly larvae, lacewing larvae, and cecidomyiid larvae were observed feeding on green apple aphids.   One week an orchard would have young terminal leaves infested with aphids and by the next week, there would be dead, black aphid bodies on the same terminals -- thanks to the predators !    It is a situation we all should be happy about !
