New Fungicide labeled for Apple Scab


The following is a quick summary of Vanguard (cyprodinil) which belongs to a group of chemicals called anilinopyrimidines (AP).  Note that plant pathologists in the Northeast have
not rated it any better than some of the standard protectant fungicides and it is considered less effective at warmer temperatures, limiting its use to early in the season. Vangard does not have eradicant or antisporulant activity and it does not provide fruit scab control alone.
