Stage of Bud: Early Pink at UVM HRC

Apple Scab Ascospores: At the beginning of this week, we had accumulated 341 DD at the HRC which means we have entered the "accelerated phase" of ascospore maturity (see page 10 of the 1996-97 New Eng. Apple Pest Management Guide for details). This is a critical time for ascospore release.

Leafminers: Be on the alert for high populations ! In one week, our trap captures jumped from next to nothing to over threshold. There have been other reports in the region of high leafminer trap captures. Start to look at the undersurface of leaves for early sap-feeder mines. For McIntosh, the threshold at Petal Fall is 7 mines per 100 leaves.
